TITLE :Access Denied Message when Accessing Everyone Resource
PRODUCT :Windows NT
PROD/VER:3.10
OPER/SYS:WINDOWS
KEYWORDS:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1
----------------------------------------------------------------------
SYMPTOMS
========
An "Access Denied" message appears when you attempt to access a resource
across an untrusted domain that has permissions for the Everyone group
in the following two situations:
- When a user from an untrusted domain attempts to access your server and
they have the same user name with a different password defined in your
domain, they are prompted for a password or will receive the ôAccess
Deniedö message.
-or-
- The Guest account on your domain is disabled. This is the default for
Windows NT Advanced Server domains. If a user from an untrusted domain
is trying to access your server remotely, they will receive the "Access
Denied" message because they first need to do a remote logon to your
server.
RESOLUTION
==========
There are two possible solutions to this problem:
- Enable the Guest account in your Windows NT Advanced Server domain.
-or-
- Set up a trust relationship where your domain trusts the other domain.
